Marriott has broken ground on a new hotel near I-70 and U.S. 41 (Third Street) in Terre Haute near the current Bob Evans restaurant.

Spearhead Construction began construction last week on TownePlace Suites by Marriott, a 96-room extended-stay hotel. Construction began last week and is expected to last 14 months.

The developers say this hotel will serve as a hub for out-of-town visitors attending local events, business travelers, and families visiting the area. The four-story, 59,000-square-foot project is a partnership between developer Nick Patel, partner with Transcend Group LLC, and Spearhead Construction, the latter of which is leading the build.

The project is expected to employ over 100 local construction workers throughout the duration of the build.

With the addition of TownePlace Suites, Terre Haute will surpass 2,000 hotel rooms available in the community, the group said.
