Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Position Summary:
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator has a dual responsibility of internal
and external communications for the organization as well as marketing, branding, and
advertising for the museum. This person is the gatekeeper and ensures that
communication is accurate and professional and that the branding is strong and
consistent. This professional reports to the Executive Director and works closely with all
staff members and committees in order to share information with the organization’s
stakeholders.
About the Organization:
CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center shines a light on the story of the
Holocaust and survivor Eva Kor to create an empowered community of critical thinkers
who will illuminate the world with hope, healing, respect, and responsibility. CANDLES
is the only organization in the world dedicated to the memory of the twin victims and
survivors of medical experimentation at Auschwitz. The institution is not only a witness
to history, but also an active voice outside the museum walls. By working to prevent
genocide on a global level and transform prejudice on a local level, the museum aims to
create a world free from hatred and genocide. CANDLES is based in Terre Haute but
has begun to offer programs in Indianapolis. More information about the museum can

Primary Responsibilities: Communications
 Serves as gatekeeper for all materials in order to ensure consistent branding and
quality control
 Communicates with supporters and stakeholders regularly via email marketing
software, direct mail campaigns, and social media platforms
 Assists in messaging for special fundraising drives, including crowdfunding efforts
and capital campaign
 Drafts and sends press releases and media alerts, coordinates media interviews
with appropriate staff
 Manages organization’s website content
 Maintains current media contact list and expands the list and relationships to include
new contacts
Primary Responsibilities: Marketing
 Develops and implements marketing strategies and campaigns for the annual trip,
educational programs, and special events
 Collaborates on design of exhibits and educational materials

 Creates content for and designs in-house materials, mailers, events, and other
museum publications such as the annual report
 Oversees projects that require outside graphic design
 Advertising point of contact, graphic design, etc.

 Takes on special projects as needed, especially those that relate to messaging and
overall sustainability of the museum

 Willingness and availability to travel occasionally
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Significant work experience in communications and marketing
• Proven ability to work as part of a team
• Excellent computer skills: word processing, desktop publishing (Adobe Suite
preferred), photo/video editing, presentation software and hardware, social
media tools, spreadsheets, and internet.
